The Deputy
Governor of Cross River State, Professor Ivara Esu has appealed to the former
Governor Mr. Donald Duke to support the present administration in order to
achieve its policies and agenda for the State.
Speaking at
the 29th Convocation Lecture of the University of Calabar titled “Nexus between Electoral process and good
Governance in Nigeria”, Professor Esu noted that the high profile of the
former Governor was a veritable asset that will help drive the agenda of
Professor Ben Ayade. He said Cross Riverians will never forget the legacy left
behind by the former Governor and urged him to partner the current
administration in moving the state forward.
The Deputy
Governor who was the Chairman at the Occasion commended the University for the Many
Strides it has achieved over the years as an academic resource centre. He said that
it was quite gratifying to note that inspite of the lean financial resources
being experienced in the country, the School authority was able to plan a
successful convocation ceremony. He paid
glorying tributes to the Vice Chancellor Prof. Zana Akpagu and the Governing council
for keeping the long tradition of holding an annual Convocation.
Professor Esu
also commended the Authorities of the University for their Untiring Efforts in
ensuring that the University becomes sufficient in providing for its manpower needs.
The Deputy Governor also extolled the leadership qualities of the Guest
Lecturer Prof. Yakubu Aboki Ochefu describing him as a worthy ambassador who
made tremendous contributions at the last national Conference in Abuja.
